Case Study - Medical Education

Client

A globally recognized medical education partner to leading life sciences organizations, delivering accredited Continuous Medical Education (CME) programs to healthcare professionals worldwide. The organization supports ongoing clinical education for doctors across multiple specialties, helping them stay current with evolving medical research, treatment protocols, and best practices.

With a rapidly growing learner base and increasing demand for digital CME programs, the client required a scalable and flexible medical education LMS capable of supporting tens of thousands of healthcare professionals simultaneously.

Challenge

The client needed to develop a robust online CME platform that could deliver practical, challenge-based digital medical education while maintaining a seamless learner experience. One of the primary challenges was supporting the training of 35,000+ Doctors on a single platform without compromising performance, usability, or accreditation standards.

In addition, the client required a dedicated front-end web application that allowed doctors to easily browse, enroll in, and track CME programs. The platform needed to be intuitive enough to support busy healthcare professionals with limited time.

A unique industry-specific requirement was the ability to create customized CME Microsites that could be rebranded for different pharmaceutical sponsors. These microsites needed to maintain compliance, branding flexibility, and independent course listings—all while being managed through a centralized LMS backend.

Solution

In June 2017, AlphaLearn worked closely with the client to design and implement a custom front-end web application, seamlessly integrated with AlphaLearn LMS through secure APIs. This doctor-friendly interface enabled fast registration, easy course discovery, and frictionless enrollment into CME programs.

To improve learner engagement, AlphaLearn introduced a gamified assessment feature that highlighted the Top 5 Learners based on assessment attempts and performance, encouraging active participation without compromising academic integrity. Zoom webinar integration enabled the launch of hybrid CME programs, combining self-paced digital modules with live, instructor-led virtual sessions.

To address the client’s most distinctive requirement, AlphaLearn rolled out the Microsites feature, allowing each pharmaceutical sponsor to host fully branded CME portals. These microsites maintained sponsor-specific branding while leveraging AlphaLearn’s centralized course management, compliance tracking, and reporting capabilities.

Result

The impact of the AlphaLearn-powered CME platform was immediate and significant. Within two weeks of launching the initial CME programs, the platform successfully registered and enrolled over 10,000 healthcare professionals, demonstrating strong adoption and trust within the medical community.

Doctors reported that navigating the platform was intuitive and time-efficient, with seamless access to both self-paced CME courses and live virtual ILT sessions. Average course completion rates exceeded 82%, well above typical industry benchmarks for online medical education.

The Microsites feature proved to be a major success, enabling the client to onboard multiple large pharmaceutical sponsors within the first few months. Sponsored CME listings increased overall program reach while preserving compliance and learner experience.

By leveraging AlphaLearn LMS, the client built a scalable, sponsor-friendly, and learner-centric medical education ecosystem, capable of supporting continuous growth in accredited CME delivery across global markets.
