On-Premise LMS: Self-Hosted
Learning Management System
Deploy AlphaLearn inside your own network - full platform, AD/LDAP single sign-on, and perpetual or term licensing in INR. Built for organisations whose security policy, regulator, or infrastructure investment rules out a shared cloud.
What is an on-premise LMS?
An on-premise LMS is a learning management system installed on servers your organisation owns and controls, inside your own network, rather than accessed as a hosted service. You hold the infrastructure, the database, and the upgrade schedule - and the responsibility for all three. AlphaLearn is available as an on-premise deployment for organisations whose security policy, regulator, or data-residency requirement rules out a shared cloud.
This is a distinct deployment question from where your team's LMS learning management system runs day to day. Most Indian enterprises are well served by a cloud LMS hosted on AWS Mumbai. On-premise exists for the smaller set of organisations that genuinely cannot use one.
When an on-premise LMS is the right choice
Four situations genuinely require it. Outside these, cloud is almost always the better economics.
Outside these four, cloud is almost always the better economics - and if data residency is the only concern, AlphaLearn's AWS Mumbai hosting already keeps data in India under the DPDP Act 2023.
On-premise LMS vs cloud LMS
Same platform, two deployment models. Here is how they differ across every dimension that matters.
| Dimension | On-Premise |
AlphaLearn Cloud
Recommended for most
|
|---|---|---|
| Deployment | Your servers | AWS Mumbai infrastructure |
| Setup time | 4 to 6 weeks including procurement | Instant |
| Cost model | Capex + annual maintenance | Per-learner subscription in INR |
| Upgrades | Scheduled by your IT team, with downtime | Automatic, no downtime |
| Scaling | Hardware procurement cycle | Instant |
| IT resource | A dedicated administrator | None |
| Security patching | Yours | Ours |
| Data residency | Fully in your control | India, AWS Mumbai region |
What AlphaLearn's on-premise deployment includes
The full platform, deployed inside your network.
The complete AlphaLearn platform
Course management, SCORM and xAPI support, assessments, certification with expiry tracking, competency mapping, the mobile app, and the full reporting suite - identical to the cloud edition.
AD/LDAP single sign-on
Deployed inside your network and integrated with your Active Directory or LDAP for single sign-on - employees log in with existing corporate credentials.
Configurable to your backup and DR policy
Version upgrades are released on a scheduled cycle with an upgrade runbook, and the deployment is configured against your existing backup and disaster-recovery policy.
Implementation team support
Our implementation team supports the scoping, sizing specification, and go-live, and remains available for scheduled upgrade cycles after deployment.
On-premise LMS pricing in India
On-premise is licensed as a perpetual licence with an annual maintenance and support contract, or as a term licence. Pricing depends on user bands and the modules deployed. Because infrastructure, backup, and administrator time sit on your side of the line, the total cost of ownership is usually higher than cloud for organisations under 5,000 users - which is worth modelling honestly before committing. See full on-premise LMS licensing options, or contact our team for a quotation in INR.
Hybrid: on-premise with cloud components
Some organisations keep learner records and assessment data on-premise while delivering content from the cloud for bandwidth reasons. AlphaLearn supports hybrid configurations where the data-sensitive components stay inside your network and content delivery scales externally. See our full hybrid LMS page for how blended online and in-person delivery works within either deployment model.

GMP-regulated manufacturers with air-gapped shopfloor networks and CDSCO audit requirements that rule out an internet-connected LMS.
Learn more →Defence and government
Fully air-gapped, classified, or restricted networks with no external connectivity, where every system - including training - must run entirely on internal infrastructure.
Learn more →Healthcare (large hospital groups)
NABH-accredited hospital networks with existing data-centre investments and internal IT teams already managing HIS and EMR infrastructure.

On-premise LMS - frequently asked questions
Common questions from Indian enterprises evaluating a self-hosted deployment.
Not automatically. On-premise gives you control, which converts to security only if your team patches, monitors, and backs up consistently. AlphaLearn's cloud is ISO 27001:2022 certified, VAPT-tested, and hosted on AWS Mumbai. Many organisations find that a higher security baseline than they can maintain in-house.
Yes. Learner records, course content, completion history, and certificates all migrate. Organisations commonly move to cloud at a hardware refresh point, once the original reason for on-premise deployment no longer applies.
Yes, provided the deployment is reachable from your users' devices - typically via VPN or a published endpoint. Fully air-gapped deployments are desktop-only by design, since the app cannot sync without any external connectivity.
Application and database servers sized to your user count, plus a backup target. Our implementation team provides a sizing specification during scoping, based on your learner count and the modules you plan to deploy.
On-premise implementation typically takes 4 to 6 weeks from contract signing to go-live, including hardware or virtual-machine procurement, installation, AD/LDAP integration, and admin training. This is longer than a cloud deployment, which is live instantly - you log in and start training the same day.
On-premise is licensed as a perpetual licence with an annual maintenance and support contract, or as a term licence - a capital cost model. Cloud LMS is a per-learner annual subscription in INR with no upfront cost. For organisations under 5,000 users, cloud is usually the lower total cost of ownership once infrastructure and administrator time are counted.
